Leaving Creative Spirit East Photographers
Hello Creative Spirit East Photographer members
I have decided, after much thought, that as of last Thursday (June 8th, 2017) I will no longer be running my Creative Spirit East Photographers club.
My reasons for this are:
1. My job at Sears Outlet, which takes up a lot of my time.
2. The long travelling distance from Bedford to Insight Gallery (it takes me about an hour to get there)
3. Stress related to having to find interesting speakers to present for us.
4. Not enough people come to the meetings to make it worth the long trip from Bedford.
5. I want to have days off for myself.
I am considering continuing the club, but probably under a new name and as a Meetup group. This will allow for new members outside of Creative Spirit to join, but I have to find out more before I do this.
Justina Dollard, who I informed of my decision on June 8th, has suggested that there may be a member at Insight Gallery who might be able to take over the group.
I hope you understand my position and I am sorry if this inconviences anybody.

former Co-ordinator of the Creative Spirit East Photographers.

Our last Creative Spirit East Photographers meeting of 2016
Hi Creative Spirit East
Due to the weather forecast for next Tuesday December 6th, I have decided to hold our last Photography club at
Insight Gallery
156 Octherloney Dr
between 1:30 to 3:30.
in Justina's office
The weather forecast has changed again, here is the situation now.
https://weather.gc.ca/city/pages/ns-19_metric_e.html
However, I am tired to changing venues back and forth and need to set a location once and for all.
Due to the lateness of the change, I have no guest speaker lined up. so the agenda is wide open. Perhaps we can talk about where we would like to take this club in 2017, do we want to make it a Meetup group?
https://www.meetup.com/
I am a member of this and could create a meetup group for our photo club which would not be specific to only accepting members of Creative Spirit East, but then, if we did that we would have to change the name again. Anyway, it's something we can discuss.
I welcome any other issues you might like to bring up during our meeting.
As usual bring 8 to 10 pics to showcase on our TV on a USB flashdrive or CD-RW.
As you know the 6th of December is the 99th anniversary of the Halifax Explosion and I was hoping to have a shoot around the area where the canon lies, but with the weather changing so often, I think it best to all meet at a familiar location.
Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause to anyone
Hope to see you all there!
Sincerely
Chris Jackson

Agenda for the next creative Spirit east photographers meeting
Hello Creative Spirit East Photographers
We will be having a meeting of the Creative Spirit East Photographers on August 31st, in Justina Dollard's office between 1:30 and 3:30 at Insight Gallery. I sent out an agenda today and gave in my email two choices:
1. A presentation by SteveTv president Steve Levielle on how to get into videography (not the importance of practicing, as mentioned in the email or a presentation by me a misunderstanding on my part).
2. A presentation of best of my photos from my recent U.S. vacation in Bangor, New Hampshire and Vermont.
You decide what you want!
As always feel free to bring up any issues of your own that you wish to discuss!
As usual, we will have a presentation of your photos taken since our last meeting. Remember to have no more than 8 photos in your presentation, stored on a USB flashdrive or a CD R/RW disc.
Hope to see you all there!

Official agenda for the next creative spirit east photographers meeting
Hello Creative Spirit East Photographers!
Just wanted to let you know that we will not be having a guest speaker this month, it was going to be Adrian Fish, but because of the probability of Gallery not being open for our meeting date, Adrian and I have decided to reschedule the talk for the end of June, when he is available.
However, we will still have a meeting, and the main subject on the agenda will be a follow up on The Vikings shoot that we touched on at our last meeting at Insight Gallery, an idea that was brought to our attention by Aura Lee Mahoney, one of our members and is being shot by Mike McCarty and any other member who wishes to take part in that aspect.
We will all congregate at the coffee shop in the Alderney Gate building May 25th in Dartmouth at 2pm. The meeting itself will be from 2pm to 4pm. I will bring my laptop and we will have our monthly slideshow so if you have any pics, bring them on a USB flashdrive or a CD-R (no more than 8 to 10 pics per person), or if you prefer, since we are in such a interesting area, we could go out and do a shoot of our surroundings in Black and White. Perhaps we can get both in depending on how long we talk about the Vikings shoot.
I will try to get there before 2pm if possible . If I get there early, I will inquire at the Alderney Library about renting a room for our June meeting and see if they have audio-visual equipment available.
Hope to see you all at 2pm inside the Alderney Gate building!
Sincerely

Hello Creative Spirit East Photographers!
Our next meeting will be:
March 30th, 2016
Insight Gallery
156 Ochterloney St
Justina's Office
1:30 to 3:30pm
We are having this extra meeting to accommodate a presentation of the works of Keith Michael Cossey and to make up for our missed meeting in February due to the gallery's closure that month.
Mr. Cossey will be doing an hour long presentation on his "Phantoms of the Forest" works, which were on exhibit at Viewpoint Gallery last November. The plan is for him to present for half an hour and answer question during the second half hour.
Following the meeting we will have a presentation of our members photography. Please remember to bring no more than 8 photos on a USB flashdrive or CD-R disc to give other members an opportunity to show their works.
Last week's presentation by David Grandy on Portrait Lighting was a great success, everyone who attended seemed to get a lot out of it.
Looking forward to seeing you there!

1st Creative spirit East Photographers Meeting to be held at Insight Gallery!
Just a short note to say that we will be holding our first meeting of the Creative Spirit East Photographers club in the office of Insight Gallery located at 156 Ochterloney Drive, between 1 and 3pm on Thursday June 25th.
The Agenda is pretty much open except for a few items of my own regarding the postponment of the Puss In Boots shoot and an idea of Bill Travis for a Photo Scavenger hunt for the club that might be of interest to us and Mike McCarty's idea of doing a slideshow of the many photos he took while travelling over the Spring.
Please remember to bring 8 to 10 recent photos on a USB stick for our monthly slideshow!
Hope to see you there!

Please remember to bring 8 to 10 recent photos on a USB stick for our monthly slideshow!
Hope to see you there!

- A demonstration on a new concept of watermarking your photo files to put on our Weebly website, without watermarking the photo itself.
- Question: Do we want Duncan Harper to do a workshop on poster creation?
- Anica James, (http://www.anicajames.com/) a freelance photographer currently based in Nova Scotia, will be presenting a talk about her photography to our group during this meeting, followed by a question/answer session.

No longer putting watermark on pictures for members
As of this past month, I have decided to no longer put a watermark "©2014 by (your name here)" on the pictures I upload for members.
Why? You ask? Here's why:
Last month, I was sent this article from Picturecorrect.com
http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/the-pros-and-cons-of-watermarking-your-photos/
The views expressed within the convinced me that watermarking our photos is a waste of time. When you read the article, you will see why.
What I have decided to do instead is in the caption portion of the photo, I will, along with your title, include a "©2015 by (your name here)" statement that will appear under the picture so that they will see that the picture is copyrighted and still be able to enjoy the picture without the distraction of the watermark on the picture, in addition to the caption.

Agenda and update on temporary change of locale for Creative Spirit East photographers meeting
Hello Creative Spirit East Photographers
Just a short notice to say that due to the new Art Group (led by Sandy Escobar) now meeting on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:30 our Creative Spirit East Photographers meeting will be in held in the Seary Gallery between 1 and 3pm tomorrow (the room next to the Open Studio)
From this point on, we will hold our meetings either on Tuesdays or Thursdays 1 to 3pm in the Open Studio at Veith Street Gallery.
Here's our agenda for the meeting:
* An update on the next Puss In Boots shoot. Specifically, we will be going over who we will use as extras in the wedding scene. So far we have Ania Bogacziewicz, Lisa Richard, who seem interested and we think Sam Wood, Craig Colpitts, and Tim Dockrill (if he's still interested) should be there as well, in addition to our main cast. Who will be picking up who and when will also be discussed.
* Final planning on our October 31st Halloween shoot at the Old Burying Grounds. Who will pick up who? Will we all get dressed up or just some of us?
* The upcoming Photoscape/Weebly seminar: Who will be able to make it? I want as many of our members there as possible! I have Friday, October 24th off work. I'm thinking from 1 to 4 with a break in the middle .
* I would like to showcase our website on the big screen TV for review as I've made a few minor changes and would like feedback on sections that may no longer be needed or useful.
* Our monthly slideshow of photos (taken since our September 16th meeting), these can be behind the scenes shots people have taken at our 1st Puss In Boots shoot. Remember to put 8 to 10 photos in a separate folder on a USB flashdrive for the slideshow.
If you have any issues, in addition to the ones above, that you would like to bring up during the meeting, don't be afraid to speak up!
Sorry for the last minute announcement, hope to see you all there!

Agenda for upcoming Creative spirit Photographers meeting
Hello Creative Spirit East Photographer members!
As promised, here is the agenda for our upcoming meeting of the Creative Spirit East Photographers in the Open Studio of Veth Street Gallery between 1 and 3pm
* An update from Helen and I on casting and preparing for the Puss In Boots shoot
* Promoting our new calendar that just came out of the printers

* Discussion on seminars and when to schedule them.
* Getting more entries into the upcoming 'Fall In" Photopolis exhibit
Just wanted to mention that one of our members David Poirier has moved on and will not be joining us in any future meetings as he is not renewing his CSE membership. His unique photography will be missed.
There is a possibility that we may have a presentation of Photography from Anica James, I will be conferring with Justina Dollard and Anica on this possibility.
After the meeting, there will be a dress rehearsal for the Puss In Boots shoot. Anyone who is participating in the upcoming "Puss In Boots" shoot will be asked to bring in elements of their costume and other things they feel might help other with theirs. We still need a King crown and perhaps something that will pass as a Staff for the King. Last Sunday, Helen and I took shots of the areas we will be doing the shoots in and will present these to you.
Hope you will all be there! This is an important meeting to attend!

no more meeting minutes on website
As of today, I will no longer be writing and and publishing our minutes on this website. With my current job at Sears, I just don't have the time I had before.
I will still continue to take notes at meetings so that if anyone misses a meeting, they can just email me at [email protected] and I will be happy to give a rundown on the important issues discussed during the meeting.
I hope you don't find this an inconvience.

On the agenda this meeting:
Last, but not least, our monthly slideshow. Members are welcome to bring in the pics they couldn't show last month, as well as their new ones. Please bring in no less than 8 and no more than 12 pictures. Pictures can be on a USB flashdrive, CD-R disc or in printed format.

11:30am – 1:00pm.
On the agenda this meeting:
- Creative Spirit Photographers logo contest: Since sending out the email regarding this contest, I have only had one person contribute. Should I should revisit the contest in the Fall because of the upcoming Summer?
- More seminars? I t has recently been brought to my attention by a member that perhaps we should concentrate on photography related seminars more than we have in the past. Your feedback on this issue is welcome!
- TV or Projector : Has anyone heard of anyone wanting to give away one?

New logo competition for our website homepage!
During the last two meetings of our club, I've mentioned the idea of having a new logo to replace our text version of the name of our website "Creative Spirits Photography" and during our latest meeting on April 23rd, presented my idea for a logo and accepted suggestions, but now, I'm opening up this competition to our current Creative Spirit East members.
So, using the idea of photography let me see what you can come up with. Any aspect of photography can be included in the logo (camera lens, tripod, camera flash etc) and the acronym CSEP (Creative Spirit East Photographers) on it's own or with the actual name underneath in an inventive way.
Date of submissions of your ideas will be the July 24th meeting of the Creative Spirit Photographers photo club. Please submit your ideas to [email protected]. The winning submission will be featured as the main logo on the home page.
Looking forward to seeing your submissions!

Reminder and agenda for next tuesdays meeting
To all CSE members
There will be a meeting of the Creative Spirit Photographers photo group at Veith Street Gallery in the Art Class studio next Tuesday November 19th, between 1:30 and 3:30pm.
During this meeting, the following issues will be discussed:
Update
Added to the agenda just today:
As with every meeting, we try to have a slideshow of members submissions for our ongoing “Emulate your favourite photographer” challenge, where you research on the internet and find a photographer whose work you particularly admire. Then, go on a shoot and take pictures that fall into the theme your chosen photographer has captured. You can include a short bio on the photographer to go with your presentation if you like. Remember, no more than 8 pics per slideshow, so others can get their entries shown. These can be on a USB flashdrive or a CD-R disc.
I hope to see you in what will be our last meeting of 2013, Mike McCarty will be taking over Co-ordinator duties from me while I take a sabbatical from the role to concentrate on discovering what I want to do in my new life. I will still attend meetings however.

There will be a meeting of the Creative Spirit Photographers photo group at Veith Street Gallery in the Art Class studio next Tuesday November 19th, between 1:30 and 3:30pm.
During this meeting, the following issues will be discussed:
- What type of Portraiture shoots do we want to do in the winter?, so far Dick Tracy and fantasy themed shoots like Peter Pan or Game of Thrones have been mentioned.
- Our 2014 calendar, what do we think would be a reasonable price to charge? It has cost approx. $200 to print 25 calendars and prices proposed have been $25/ $20 for non-members and $18.75/$15.00 for CSE members who contributed.
Update
- In order to facilitate early sales, I've decided that the 2014 Calendar will be priced for non-members at $20 and $15 for members who contributed or are CSE members. I might bring this up during the meeting, but I've already informed Michael Seary, our founder of Veith Street Gallery and Creative Spirit East of this as he is interested in selling some of the calendars on our behalf at the above pricing.
- We also should discuss the art cards we will be producing in the very near future. Ideas for themes? The idea of doing cards featuring the art of CSE members has been brought up.
Added to the agenda just today:
- Do we want to begin meeting on Wednesdays between 11 and 1pm as originally planned (save for this meeting) or meet on Tuesdays between 1:30 and 3:30pm?

Next Wednesday's meeting still rescheduled
Hello Creative Spirit Photographers
I am rescheduling our photo club meeting from next Wednesday to Tuesday, November 19th between 1:30 and 3:30pm. A notice will be sent out the week before with agenda. There was a conflict of interests between two of our members, but it has been resolved.
This will be the last meeting of 2013. Mike McCarty will be taking over my co-ordinator for me starting in January until Spring while I take a sabbatical to recharge my emotional batteries and decide what I want to do with my life. I will still attend the meetings though, but as a member rather than co-ordinator
I hope you all understand.

Next wednesday's meeting to be rescheduled
Hello Creative Spirit Photographers
Due to unforeseen circumstances, I am rescheduling our photo club meeting from next Wednesday to Tuesday, November 19th between 1:30 and 3:30pm. A notice will be sent out the week before with agenda.
This will be the last meeting of 2013, due to a conflict within the group I will be closing the photo club until next Spring, until I can find a replacement co-ordinator (as the person who was to take over for me is no longer available) while I take a sabbatical leave to recharge my emotional batteries and decide what I want to do with my life.
Hope you all understand.

CREATIVE SPIRIT PHOTOGRAPHERS TO MEET AT VEITH STREET GALLERY

Creative Spirit Photographers meeting coming up!
There will be a meeting of the Creative Spirit Photographers group next Tuesday at the Hydrostone Cafe at 5530 Kaye Street from 1:30 to 3:30pm. Please bring up to 8 images on a USB Flashdrive from our ongoing challenge "Emulating your favourite photographer" for our slideshow. For this challenge, you would go online (or to a library) and find a photographer whose work you admire and then do a shoot based on the type of photography he/she enjoyed. The pictures do not have to be an exact duplicate of the photographer's pictures, as long as they reflect that kind of photos the photographer enjoyed taking.
We'll also be discussing our upcoming calendar and Nocturne "Action Figures" exhibit, which will have since passed by the time this meeting takes place.
Justina Dollard, our administrator, will also be in attendence to talk about matters of importance to her regarding the club.
Hope to see you there!

cREATIVE sPIRIT PHOTOGRAPHERS MEETING COMING UP!
OUR NEXT CREATIVE SPIRIT PHOTOGRAPHERS MEETING WILL..BE TAKING PLACE AT BEV LEWIS'S HOUSE ON AUGUST 10TH. 2pmM TO 5pm. See the announcement below for more information:
An invitation From Mike McCarty Re: 007 costume rehearsal, Creative Spirit Photographers meeting and Summer Pot Luck at Bev Lewis's house at 5676 Macara St:
Date: Saturday, August 10th from 2 til 8 PM
This part of the message was directed to me:
Bev has a CD player if you want to bring your soundtrack material. This will also be a good opportunity to get candid ‘behind the scenes’ photos.
On this month's agenda (for Justina) things that were only touched upon at our July meeting:
I would like to follow up on the issues of:
We will have our slideshow of our photo challenge for this meeting which is "Emulating your favorite photographer(s)" whereby you would go on the internet and find a photographer (or photographers) whose work you particularly admire and do a photo shoot based on the type of photography that he/she specialized in. You can also give a small bio on the photographers of your choice and why you chose them, if you wish. There will be a limit of no more than 8 pictures from each member for our slideshow, to allow everyone a chance to showcase our work.
I sincerely hope to see you there!

An invitation From Mike McCarty Re: 007 costume rehearsal, Creative Spirit Photographers meeting and Summer Pot Luck at Bev Lewis's house at 5676 Macara St:
Date: Saturday, August 10th from 2 til 8 PM
- We will have the photo club meeting. We can discuss what we hope to do with the images from the 007 photo shoot eg: calendar / show etc. One idea is to have the photo club make their own photo based calendar which might also incorporate characters from the Avengers and others. This would let the gallery calendar feature more work by non-photo artists.
- Models for the 007 shoot can try on clothing and jewelry that Bev has. Models should bring their own costumes and props as well, if they have them.
- Caite is doing hair and makeup and asks that people bring in pictures of the ‘look’ that they would like her to do.
- At about 5 PM we will share food and drinks on a pot-luck basis. Everyone is asked to bring something to share.
- 007 films can be viewed on Bev and Sam’s big screen TV.
This part of the message was directed to me:
Bev has a CD player if you want to bring your soundtrack material. This will also be a good opportunity to get candid ‘behind the scenes’ photos.
On this month's agenda (for Justina) things that were only touched upon at our July meeting:
- Photowalk – A new VSGSA program with the CSE Shutterbugs possibly in conjunction with the photoclub at Connections Halifax: meeting to walk a decided route together and taking pictures and meeting new people during the Summer.
- Skillsharing – VSGSA will host workshops to experiment and then share findings with other members. A good experiment suggested to begin with is "Light Painting", which is the process of taking any form of light (a flashlight, laser pointer, etc) and photographing it at a slow shutter speed making streaks and lines with the beam of light. This video from YouTube should give you an idea of what it's all about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp1tsPEwYGc_
- The Creative Spirit East Calendar – planning shoots and making a meeting with anyone interested soon to discuss the calendar.
- The CSE Shutterbugs' participation in this year's Nocturne and next year's Photopolis Festival.
I would like to follow up on the issues of:
- Ideas of things we should fundraise for the CSE Shutterbugs, now that we have Carolyn Taylor's multimedia projector for our slideshows.
- The idea of having a "work" day for members to bring in their laptops and upload their pictures on their pages from past photo challenges and current.
- Set a date on Doug Murphy's follow up to this last seminar "How to make a better picture". We have not had a seminar since February 28th.
Remi nder of our next CSE Shutterbugs meeting-Update
To all CSE members:
As you know, due to my mother's recent passing, the CSE Shutterbugs meeting we were to have on June 13th at Veith Street Gallery was postponed. We will have that meeting instead on July 6th between 1:30 pm to 3:30pm at Elizabeth Eaton`s house on Jamieson Street. At this meeting, our Administrator, Justina Dollard, will be joining us to talk about some exciting ideas she has for the CSE Shutterbugs, such as:
- * Photowalk – A new VSGSA program with the CSE Shutterbugs possibly in conjunction with the photoclub at Connections Halifax: meeting to walk a decided route together and taking pictures and meeting new people during the Summer.
- * Skillsharing – VSGSA will host workshops to experiment and then share findings with other members. - * The CSE Shutterbugs' participation in this year's Nocturne and next year's Photopolis Festival.
- * Justina would also like to discuss our "First Shot, Best Shot" exhibit of this past May.
On my agenda for this meeting will be:
* A discussion on the future of our seminars. We have not had one since February 28th, with Doug Murphy's "How to make a better picture".
- * I'd like to discuss again the idea of a new name for our group.
- * I would also like to discuss ideas of things we should fundraise for the CSE Shutterbugs, now that we have Carolyn Taylor's multimedia projector for our slideshows.
- * I'd like to address the issue of how to encourage members to become more active in contributing to our website.
We will have our slideshow of our photo challenge for this meeting which is "Emulating your favorite photographer(s)" whereby you would go on the internet and find a photographer (or photographers) whose work you particularly admire and do a photo shoot based on the type of photography that he/she specialized in. tHE "fIRST SHOT, BEST SHOT" EXHIBIT CONTINUES IT'S SHOWING AT THE hYDROSTONE CAFE.
Last Saturday, members of the CSE Shutterbugs held an opening of their exhibit "First Shot, Best Shot" at the Hydrostone Cafe. We had a good many guests and everyone had a great time. Open Mic with Wendy Martin, Daniel Haigh and Denis Jones (with a surprise performance by Caithleen Carter Steeves) was a great success, with a blend of music and spoken poetry. Elizabeth Eaton provided free tasty food treats and Patrick Doherty the sandwiches and coffee (for a reasonable price!)
However, just because the opening is over, doesn't mean the exhibit is. Please come in and see our works if you're in the area. Everything is priced to sell and the proceeds benefit both The Hydrostone Cafe and Veith Street Gallery and the artist gets 75% of the profits as well.
Here is a sampling of some of the photography that was on display during our opening...
...and there are more photographic surprises around as well, come to the Hyrdostone Cafe and check them out!
Above are some pictures taken by me of the Open Mic segment of the opening, with musicians Wendy Martin and Daniel Haigh with special guest Caithleen Carter Steeves.
and here are some more pics I snapped during our opening...
Sam Wood, our Event Photographer, took the bulk of the pictures that afternoon and his photos will be up here as soon as possible.

Links for our next Photo Challenge for our CSE Shutterbugs meeting in June
I've decided that since we are having our "First Shots, Best Shots" opening on May 4th and plan an "Artist Talk" for later in the month that we will hold our next CSE Shutterbugs meeting on June 14th to give members time to tackle our next Photo Challenge:
"Emulating the Masters of Photography"
...and here are some links to help you out in our next photo challenge:
http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/top-10-photographers-every-student-should-study/
and to find out more about the pioneering photographers check out...
http://photography.about.com/od/famousphotographersbios/famousphotographersandfamousphotographs.htm
The idea of this challenge is to study your favourite photographer through these links and then go out on a photoshoot and take pictures that pay tribute to that photographer
The pictures do not have to be exact duplicates of the photographer, as long as it reminds you of the type of photography your chosen photographer enjoyed.
Please don't forget Doug Murphy's follow up seminar to "How to Make A Better Photo" at Veith Street Gallery April 18th, between 1pm and 3pm in the Art Studio!

What We Know about our Hydrostone Café exhibit This May4th as of March 28th
- We’re having a Spring season themed display to commemorate our first anniversary as the CSE Shutterbugs (May 4th) between 1 to 4pm during Patrick’s Open Mic event.
- The title of our show will be called “First Shots, Best Shots”. It will not be solely season based, just pick out up to 3 of your best shots (if you haven’t already) to frame/mat.
- Participating members should have all framed/matted works at Veith Street Gallery no later than May 2nd, with titles and prices included
- Pictures can be of various sizes, between 4x6 to as high as 11x14. All submissions (4x6 to 8x10), should be matted in the appropriate frame ( 5x7 to 11x14) in a clip frame or a tryptech frame (if you can find one cheaply). A tryptech frame is a frame that holds more than one picture. I doubt there will be room for more than one of anything matted in a 16x20 frame.
- Carol Johnstone will create posters advertising the event. Send your best shot to her in TIFF or JPEG format, full-size (if you haven’t already) ASAP (but no later than April 7th) to: [email protected].
- There may be an Artist Talk at The Hydrostone Café sometime in May after our opening. This is something that will be discussed with Patrick at our April 12th meeting.
- As many CSE Shutterbugs members who regularly attend our meetings (and those who come to our seminars) can donate framed or matted works for the exhibit. Members who frequently attend our meetings and contribute will be given wall preference, while others may display at Veith Street Gallery, have prints in a binder (priced, with bio) or prints displayed on easels.
- There will be a note informing visitors that more works can be viewed at Veith Street Gallery, Tues-Thurs 11 to 4pm and a note at the Gallery will refer visitors to The Hydrostone Café to see more works during their opening hours.
We have room for approximately 30 pictures, so based on the list above, each person can put in up to 3 pictures.
Talked with Patrick Doherty via Facebook on March 27th and he said that if Justina puts $20 towards the catering cost (as she said she would do)and I put in $10 of my own money, that this would cover beverages and snacks during the opening.
- Caithleen Carter Steeves has agreed to make a cake for the May 4th opening.
- Apparently, we can’t use the $50 Minutemen Gift Certificate to print our posters as it falls under the category of Photocopying, which the certificate doesn’t allow. I gave Carol Johnstone the certificate and she will check into another option for me.
- Justina Dollard will do printing of posters (20) at Staples in mid April and can help with sending out invites via e-mail for the exhibit.
People will distribute invitations/posters at various locations.
Posters can be put up at:
- Teamwork Co-operative
- Autism Nova Scotia (Helen Morrison has offered to do this)
Rack cards will also be created and distributed at local:
- Cafes
- Restuarants
- Galleries/Cafes in The Hydrostone Market area
I will create a Facebook event page for inviting people and have members invite their friends through their Facebook page. I will also post the poster on our Creative Spirits Photography website and on our CSE Shutterbugs Facebook page.
Ads will be placed in:
- The Coast
- The Chronicle Herald
- The Community Herald
- The Metro
- Arts East
- VANS (Visual Arts Nova Scotia)
- Halifax Advertising Kiosk website
- Arts & Crafts –free classified ads
That's all for now!

Heads up on next meeting and photo challenge
(Updated March 23rd)
Hello CSE Shutterbugs
Just wanted to let you know that our next scheduled meeting of the CSE Shutterbugs will take place at the Hydrostone Cafe on April 12TH, 2013 between 1:30 and 3:30pm to accomodate a member who has an appointment on the original April 19th meeting date.
Stay tuned for the poster, coming in April!
Also, our next Photo Challenge is "Antiquing your photos". Seeing as our last photo challenge was "Old" I thought I would take it one step further and have members take photos taken recently that they feel would look good in black and white (or sepia) and aged to appear like it was taken in the 1940s or earlier. Members can use the software "PhotoScape" to antique their photos by using a filter called "Antique Photo" found in the Editor section of the program. Another option people have, who are not familiar with that program could be to make something antique yourself by making a document (saying anything you want) seeping it in tea of coffee and wrinkling up the paper and letting it dry, as Doug Murphy recently did for the "Old" challenge.
Remember to have no more than 8 photos on USB flashdrive or CD-R disc for the slideshow and to e-mail me your photos as soon as possible after the meeting so I will have an easier time doing the poster. Remember to name the photos and indicate which one you want on the home page of our website slideshow and for the poster!
Thank You
Chris Jackson
